Current Needs List
This center is home to 160 children aged 2.5 to 17 years.
General Needs:
§ Shoes for kids aged 2,5 – 17 (there are kids of school age (70), younger children (100)) § Vacuum cleaners § Summer camp at the seaside (about 800 hrn per child $150) § Toys (pretend shop, hospital, hairdressers and so on) § Washing detergent – 50 kilos per month § Cleaning detergents – 5-6 kilos per month § Laser printer – 2 (1500 hrn each ($238)) § Equipment for 8 playgrounds (benches, slides, sandboxes, tables, stairs for climbing) § Kids’ pavilions § Bread cutting machine – 2400 hrn ($453) § Electric boiler for 100 liters (for heating up water in the kitchen) § Soap – 170 bars per month § Toy equipment manufactured in Khmelnitskiy § Asphalting the lanes § Alma Company Toys (AL 223) - 8 Gnome Sets (1,794 grivnas each) § Alma Company Furniture (AL 242) - 1 Rest Corner Set (2,117 grivnas)
From Tony and Sveta after an assessment visit in August 2004:
"Located very close to the flat we were staying at, this Orphanage was located in a quite Kharkiv neighborhood. The buildings were old (30-40 years) but in decent shape. The yard was divided into sections that surrounded the building. Each section consisted of playground equipment except for one side which had an open court.
The interior of the building were adequate. The Orphanage seemed to have a good amount of sports equipment, televisions, toys, and even some computers. The children were very healthy looking and friendly. The playground equipment was old, and the majority of it needs to be replaced. Overall I thought this was a well managed and decently funded Orphanage."
