Current Needs List

*** Special note:  During the summer months, help us plan for the WINTER by sending/donating clothing for fall and winter use. ***

Recent Shipments:

Knee pads (for the children who can't walk and must drag themselves on the floor to get around), 250 pairs of shoes, 250 pairs of slippers, 250 pairs of socks, TONS of toys and stuffed animals, board books, and other developmental items, blankets, $250 donation worth of new developmental toys, walkers and wheelchairs, (144) pairs of winter ski gloves, (60) pairs of girls' underwear, (2) -(135) piece tool sets, (8) activity tables/eating trays for the bedridden children, (4) boxes of children's clothing, (3) blood pressure monitors. 

Most Urgent Needs (updated 2-1-2008):

  • small, foldable (card) tables to use during meal time- space was an issue w/ them so it would have to be a table that is easily stored away- w/ chairs~ some of the disabled children can sit independently so it would be awesome if they could get UP to eat instead of eating in bed
  • pillows to prop children up (bobbys- used by nursing moms) to support children while sitting up
  • Foam donuts (used in hospitals to prevent skin breakdown
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste!!!!
  • Batteries for electronic toys- they claim batteries are either hard to find or expensive but they love all of the toys.
  • Instant hand sanitizer
  • New machines for quick labwork (blood sugar machine, hemocue to measure hemoblubin, strep kits to test for strep throat, urine dipsticks, etc.)
  • 1 Kilometer 100 Meters of Fencing (the fence has been stolen and children have wandered off and disappeared)---working on getting a GRANT to meet this need
  • Medicine for the Year 24 000 hrv. ($400 a month - a little more than a $1 per child!)
  • Money to help cover SHIPPING COSTS
  • Bedridden Children's Project
  • Adult size clothing (adult size Small and Medium) (Dollar Days)

    Important Note: They disinfect the underwear at 120 degree C, so it MUST be cotton
  • DVD Players for Cartoons (they have televisions but the usual programs are of little interest to these kids
    (Cyberhome Region Free DVD player, available on EBAY or at Bestbuy.com)
  • Developmental Toys - Legos, Painting Books, Pencils, Modeling Clay
  • Sewing Machines - $135 each, purchased in Ukraine
  • Linoleum
  • Swaddling Clothes
  • Washable Diapers - donate LARGE SIZE used ones, or purchase NEW ones for $1 each from the Hearts of Love Ministry
  • Socks - purchase in wholesale lots on E-bay!
  • Shoes - all kinds, from slippers to boots
  • Developmental Books/BOARD Books - not paperback
  • Batteries - all types for Toys
  • Adult Disposable Diapers - SMALL and MEDIUM with sticky tabs (purchase in wholesale lots on EBAY)
  • Disposable bed pads - like from the hospital (Dollar Days)
  • Adult CLOTH diapers
  • Large Plastic/Vinyl Bibs with Tie Strings (Dollar Days)
  • Scrub Tops & Jackets for Caregivers (Dollar Days)
  • Therapeutic Equipment -walkers, etc (Dollar Days)
  • Bath towels (Dollar Days)
  • Cribs - 10 items
  • Crutches
  • Developmental Toys
  • Bed-clothes
  • (glass) Beads and any stuff for Embroidery
  • Plasticine, Crayons, ( colour) Construction Paper

Repairs:

  • Laundry Needs to Have Heating System Changed ($8,000)
  • Boiler House: 4 Pumps (2 at $800 each and 2 at $1,000)
  • Changing Electricity Equipment All Over 3 Buildings ($2,000) - in progress!
  • Roof Repairs for Main Building #3 ($20,000) - in progress!
  • Roof of the Connecting Tunnel ($5,000-$6,000)
  • Intercom System


Special Projects We’re Working On:

  • Outdoor Playground Equipment for older children ($100,000)
  • Outdoor Exercise Equipment for older children ($40,000)
  • Large shipment of medical items ($18,000)
  • Therapeutic indoor play equipment  ($8000)
  • $$ to help pay for private therapists and teachers to visit weekly ($400 a month)  - in progress!
